Don't have to work today and we have no venue tickets, so we are going to take Stephy and Gabriella down to soak up a little of the Olympic buzz in Vancouver. We hopped a transit bus to the Skytrain ....... the Skytrain takes us right downtown (it's the way Sue and I get to work)....the whole trip takes about 1 1/4 hours.....not nearly as many crowds on the transit as you might think and the Skytrain arrives about every 3 minutes during the Olympics. People sure are wearing a lot of red and white.
We headed immediately to the Olympic flame.....although it is really neat to see (we've been there a couple times now) the whole setup really sucks. Whoever came up with the idea to enclose it behind huge chain link fences should be fired. The attached photo of Gabriella in front of the flame gives you an idea of how absolutely impersonal they have managed to make it.....it will be a huge shame if they don't correct this soon.
Attached are a few more pictures of Gabriella......one of her with 3 police officers......they were going to arrest her for disorderly conduct but we were able to talk them out of it.
We had pictures taken at a display set up by CTV (really cool)....there are big screen TVs set up all around the entire downtown area....especially along the streets that are closed to traffic.....we were able to watch some of the speedskating heats. It's really neat to be part of a large crowd spontaneously screaming and cheering as Canadian athletes are competing. Everywhere you go there are people with flags and uniforms from all over the world....all cheering for their athletes. Everyone is unbelievably friendly.......common purpose, common goals.
