Have two real estate agents from southern Ontario act as drivers during the Olympics and Cultural Olympiad....go figure...
Up early today (4:45 am) to catch the bus that takes us to the Skytrain service....works really well as it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to our dispatch location, where we pick up vehicles and are told where we go and what to do.
Today we were immediately sent to the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre to locate the exact location of the stage door. Red Sky were heading there for 8:30 and it was pouring rain so they didn't want them having to walk very far in the rain.
After that we were sent to the "fleet" location in Surrey. Vehicles as far as the eye can see....all emblazoned with Olympic logos. It's a secure location and really out in the middle of nowhere. We were delivering some documentation.
We returned and I was sent to the airport to pick up Isaac Carpenter....he is a drummer who flew in today to from LA to play with Jeremy Fisher. Sue was going to be delivering packages to the various hotels, but the packages didn't arrive. I had scoped out the hotel where I was to take my "guest" and was heading back to the airport when the phone rang.......it was Sue and I was able to head back to the dispatch area, pick her up and then the two of us went to the airport and picked up Isaac. He was a terrific guy, and because his hotel was almost an hour from the airport, we got to have a really visit.
We discovered that the McDonalds beside the dispatch makes terrific tea.
Yesterday was the Opening Ceremony dress rehearsal. All volunteers were given a ticket to this event (along with a bottle of wine). We have tickets for the Opening Ceremonies so we gave our tickets to friends, but we heard today from everyone we talked to that had been there that it was "UNBELIEVABLE". We can't wait to see the actual event. Although they couldn't and wouldn't tell us any of the details, they all said the same thing: "wait 'til you see who is involved".
Because we spent a bit of time today at the airport, you really get to feel the Olympic buzz.....athletes, artists, performers......all arriving. Pretty cool!!
Because we dropped our "guest" at a hotel in Surrey, we were allowed to keep the car.....we were very close to Rocky and Stephanie's. On the way home we stopped in at the local grocery store....of course we were in our Olympic uniforms and driving an Olympic vehicle....everyone wanted to know all about what we were doing, where we were from, etc....we were enjoying our 15 minutes of fame.....The best was a guy at the local PetroCan station who asked me how we liked being in Canada.....I think I'll sleep in my uniform....
